Reading The Rocks Of Netarts Bay: A Time Traveling Adventure!
September 29 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
From lava flows to ancient fossils to modern environmental crises, explore the North Coast’s fantastic geologic landscape! “Working on the bay or walking on the beach, I often marvel at how they came to be. Exploring the geologic story of this place through time brings together all the different puzzle pieces that led to the creation of Netarts Bay, our sand beaches, tidepools, and headlands. The rocks and formations can tell us so much about this place!”, says WEBS Director, Chrissy Smith.
Join the Friends of Netarts Bay WEBS for a fascinating journey through time at Netarts Bay! Explore the geological wonders of the bay and uncover the secrets hidden within the rocks. Our expert guides will take you on a thrilling adventure, delving into the ancient history preserved in the layers of stone. Get ready to travel back in time and witness the incredible stories written in the rocks of Netarts Bay.
Join expert and outdoor environmental geoscience instructor Margery Price on this adventure, which will include a presentation and walking exploration at various locations around Netarts Bay. Participants should be prepared to drive or carpool to various locations between Cape Lookout and Cape Meares for this event.
Price is currently researching the use of pumice as a wastewater filter and has spent time with the US Geologic Survey in Yellowstone and as an undergraduate teaching assistant at a field school in Montana. She prides herself on finding cool rocks anywhere she goes and promises to do the same during this event.
